OSS is proud to announce the results of the MAA American Mathematics Competitions 8 (AMC – 8) 2014. Our students achieved fantastic results. Once again, Alexandria Bias was our overall school winner with a score of 24 finishing in the top 1%nationwide.
Nicholas Nguyen and Harshitha Uppada placed 2nd, Sanjana Konda, Esha Ranade, Tran Le, Christina Ta, and James Kim received 4th, all finishing in the top 5% nationwide. Also, 6th graders James Kim, Minh Le, Siyona Mishra, and Anthony Le received an achievement roll award with their high scores. OSS was also recognized as a Merit Roll school receiving 64 points and placing in the top 10 schools in the State of Florida. Congratulations to you all, and to all the mathletes that took the test!
About the AMC 8; The AMC 8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination for middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. A special purpose of the AMC 8 is to demonstrate the broad range of topics available for junior high school mathematics curriculum. Additional functions of the AMC 8 are to promote excitement, enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards mathematics and to stimulate interest in continuing the study of mathematics beyond the minimum required for high school graduation.
